The price went up first
Raise it in October, cut it in November, quote the October number. The fix is knowing the September number, which is what we record.
30 days to go. Which is exactly why we are recording prices now.
On the day, every site will show you a percentage. We will show you what the thing actually cost last week, and the week before, because we were writing it down. If the Black Friday price is not lower than that, we will say so.

A list price exists so that a discount can be measured from it. Right now, 94% of the reference prices we could check were never charged while we were watching.
TVs and laptops appear with a model number that exists only for the sale, a cheaper panel or less storage, so there is nothing to compare against. If the model number is new to you, compare the specification, not the name.

Some are excellent. Many are the usual sale price with a bigger banner, and some are measured against a list price nobody pays. Our discount audit tracks how often the struck-through price is one we never saw an offer charged.
We record what every offer costs every cycle, starting weeks before the day. On Black Friday a card can then say whether the price is below what that offer actually cost in the previous 30 days, instead of repeating the store's percentage.
From some of them, yes, and the link says so. It never decides what is listed or how it ranks.
