What this means when you shop
A struck-through price is the store's claim about the past. Sometimes it is true. Often it is a list price that nobody pays, a price that lasted a day, or a number chosen to make today look better. None of that is illegal in most places, and none of it tells you whether today is a good day to buy.
What does tell you is what the thing actually cost last week and the week before. That is what we record. When a card on this site says a price is low, it means low against prices we saw, not against the store's own arithmetic. When we cannot show that, the card says so.
Claimed discounts by category
| Category | Offers quoting a "was" price | Median claimed discount |
|---|---|---|
| Gaming | 334 | 74% |
| Software & Privacy | 9 | 73% |
| Outdoors & Everyday | 8 | 43% |
| Tech & Gear | 7 | 35% |
| Home & Workshop | 2 | 38% |
These are the stores' own figures, not ours. They are here to show how large the claims are, not to endorse them.
Method
- What is audited: every offer live on the site at the time of calculation, in every category and currency.
- History: an offer counts as watched once we have seen it on at least three separate days, the first at least a week ago, within the last 30 days. Today's price never counts as its own history.
- "Never charged": the quoted reference price is more than 1% above the highest price we saw that same offer at, from the same store, in the window. The 1% allows for rounding in store feeds.
- "Cheaper than usual": today's price is more than 1% below the median of that offer's daily prices in the window.
- Limits: a reference price could be genuine and older than our window. We say "never charged while we were watching", not "never charged". Any finding with fewer than 10 offers behind it is withheld.
